Baitarani River Viewpoint
The Baitarani River Viewpoint at Dashashwamedh Ghat is the spiritual heart of Jajpur. Known as the 'Ganges of Odisha', the Baitarani River is one of the six major rivers of the state and is deeply rooted in Hindu mythology. The viewpoint offers a stunning panoramic view of the wide riverbed, especi ally beautiful during the early morning hours when the mist hangs over the water. This spot is historically significant as the site where King Yayati Kesari performed a massive ten-horse sacrifice (Dashashwamedh Yajna) in the 10th century. The riverbank is lined with ancient temples, including the Saptamatrika temple, and long flights of stone steps (ghats) that lead down to the water. It is a place of constant activity, where pilgrims perform ancestral rites (Pinda Daan) and take holy dips.
