Beyt Dwarka, also known as Bet Dwarka or Shankhodhar, is a small island located a short ferry ride from Okha, near Dwarka. This island holds profound mythological significance as it is believed to be the actual residence of Lord Krishna during his reign in Dwarka. The name "Beyt" literally means is land. It is considered part of the ancient city of Dvaraka and is a major pilgrimage site, particularly for those completing the Dwarka pilgrimage. The main attraction on the island is the Dwarkadhish Temple of Beyt Dwarka, a much older and smaller temple compared to the mainland Dwarkadhish Temple. It is believed to be built on the spot where Lord Krishna resided with his family. The temple complex houses several shrines dedicated to Lord Krishna, his wives Rukmini and Satyabhama, and his friends. Devotees offer chaval (rice) to Lord Krishna here, believing it to be a favorite offering. The temple has a very intimate and ancient feel, distinct from the grandeur of the mainland temple. Besides the main temple, Beyt Dwarka also features the Daburji Temple, dedicated to Lord Krishna's consort, Rukmini. Another significant site is the Hanuman Dandi Temple, the only temple in the world that houses an idol of Hanuman with his son Makardhwaj. The island also has beautiful beaches, particularly the untouched Daburji Beach, which offers a serene environment and opportunities for spotting marine life like dolphins. The ferry ride to Beyt Dwarka itself is a scenic experience, offering views of the coastline and the vastness of the Arabian Sea. Beyt Dwarka offers a unique blend of mythological history, spiritual devotion, and natural beauty, providing a deeper connection to the legends of Lord Krishna.
