Champaran, formerly known as Champajhar, is a village of immense spiritual and historical significance, located about 60 kilometers southeast of Raipur. It is revered as the birthplace of Saint Mahaprabhu Vallabhacharya, the founder of the Pushtimarg sect of Hinduism. The village is a major pilgrima ge site for his followers from all over the world. The serene and peaceful environment of Champaran, nestled on the banks of a small tributary of the Mahanadi River, is a perfect blend of natural beauty and spiritual sanctity. The village is home to two main temples dedicated to Vallabhacharya and a temple of Champeshwar Mahadev. A fair, known as the Champaran Mela, is held annually, attracting thousands of devotees. The town's historical and religious importance is a testament to the rich cultural heritage of Chhattisgarh.
