Place Details: The Ranjit Sagar Dam, often referred to locally as the Thein Dam, is a monumental hydroelectric and irrigation project built on the Ravi River near the town of Shahpurkandi. It is an impressive engineering feat and the largest hydroelectric project in the state of Punjab, completed in 2001. The dam is a high-earthen core structure that has created a massive reservoir (the backwaters of which form Mini Goa and Armaan Prikshit Lake Adventures), which is several kilometers long and provides a stunning, tranquil, and vast expanse of water set against the backdrop of the rugged Shivalik foothills. While the dam itself is primarily a functional engineering site for power generation and water management, its sheer scale and the breathtaking natural beauty of the surrounding area have made it a significant tourist attraction. The area around the dam, including a dedicated view point, offers a serene environment, and the drive to the location is notably scenic and enjoyable.
