History Of Sohana Gurudwara

Historical and Spiritual Significance: Gurdwara Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib, commonly known as Gurdwara Sohana or Gurdwara Singh Shaheedan, is a site of immense historical and spiritual importance for the Sikh community. The place is dedicated to the memory of Sikh martyrs (Shaheedan) who fought val iantly against the British forces in the mid-1800s, particularly those involved in the Anglo-Sikh Wars. The Gurdwara is specifically associated with the martyrdom of Jathedar Baba Hanuman Singh Ji (the 7th Jathedar of Budha Dal and Jathedar of Akal Takht Sahib) and his companions. The land on which the Gurdwara stands is believed to be where Baba Hanuman Singh Ji and his 500 Singhs attained martyrdom after being fatally wounded in the skirmishes. Worship and Community Service: The sacred site serves as a constant reminder of the principles of bravery, sacrifice, and strong commitment to the Sikh faith. The Gurdwara complex includes the main prayer hall (Darbar Sahib), where the holy scripture, the Guru Granth Sahib, is respectfully enshrined, and a large communal kitchen (Langar Hall). The daily rituals, the continuous recitation of hymns (Kirtan), and the tradition of Langar (free communal meal served to all, regardless of background) exemplify the Sikh principles of equality (Sangat) and selfless service (Sewa).
