The Baglamukhi Temple in Bankhandi is a profound center of Tantric Shaktism dedicated to Goddess Baglamukhi, the eighth of the ten Mahavidyas. Legend suggests that the temple was established by the Pandavas during their exile in the Dwapar Yuga. The deity is known as Pitambara Devi, as she is assoc iated with the color yellow, symbolizing her power to paralyze enemies and resolve legal disputes. This sacred site attracts a multitude of devotees, including high-profile politicians and celebrities seeking divine intervention for victory. The atmosphere is thick with the scent of turmeric and the rhythmic chanting of mantras. The temple is nestled amidst the lush greenery of the Kangra valley, providing a serene yet spiritually charged environment for meditation. Pilgrims often perform special Havans here, believed to yield results within thirty-six days. The idol of the goddess is made of an eight-metal alloy, standing approximately 1.2 meters tall. It is one of the three most significant Baglamukhi shrines in India, alongside those in Datia and Nalkheda. Visitors are encouraged to wear yellow clothing to resonate with the goddess's energy. The complex also houses shrines for Lord Shiva, Bhairava, and Hanuman, making it a comprehensive spiritual hub. The belief is that the goddess emerged from a turmeric lake to calm a cosmic storm, making her the ultimate protector.
