How To Reach Deori Temple

Deori Temple is an ancient and highly revered shrine dedicated to Goddess Durga, located in Tamar near Khunti. It is world-famous for its unique idol of the Goddess which has sixteen arms, whereas traditional idols usually have eight or ten. The temple is believed to be over 700 years old and holds immense spiritual significance for both tribal and non-tribal communities. Legend says that the temple was established by a Munda King named Kera after he regained his kingdom through the Goddess's blessings. The temple gained massive national popularity because Indian cricketer MS Dhoni frequently visits here to seek blessings. The atmosphere is filled with the scent of incense and the sound of bells, creating a divine aura. The temple complex is spread over nearly two acres and houses an idol of Lord Shiva as well. A unique tradition here is that for six days a week, tribal priests called Pahans perform the rituals, and on one day, Brahmin priests conduct the prayers. This blend of cultures makes it a unique symbol of social harmony in Jharkhand. Thousands of devotees flock here during festivals like Navratri and Holi. The temple is surrounded by many shops selling religious offerings and local snacks. Many devotees tie red and yellow threads on the bamboo structures inside the temple to make a wish. Once their wish is fulfilled, they return to untie the thread as a mark of gratitude. The temple has undergone several renovations, but the original sanctum remains untouched. It is a place where faith transcends boundaries and brings people from all walks of life together. The serene environment and the powerful presence of the deity make it a must-visit destination for spiritual seekers.

How to Reach

By Air: Fly to Ranchi Airport (60 KMS away) and take a taxi via the Ranchi-Tata Highway.

By Train: Reach Ranchi or Muri railway station. Muri is closer to Tamar and offers local transport options.

By Road: The temple is located right on NH-33. Frequent buses running between Ranchi and Jamshedpur stop at Tamar.

By Local Transport: Auto-rickshaws and trekkers are available from Bundu and Khunti to reach the temple site easily.
