How To Reach Jetaprolu Shivalayam
Mahabubnagar, Telangana, India
History and Significance : The Shiva Temple at Jetaprolu is a magnificent assembly of ancient shrines located near the banks of the Krishna River. Historically, this place is known as Jatayuvu Kshetra, believed to be the spot where the mythical bird Jatayu fought Ravana. The temples were originally located in villages like Malleswaram but were meticulously shifted stone-by-stone to Jetaprolu to save them from submergence during the construction of the Srisailam Dam. This site includes the famous Agasthyeswara Swamy temple, dating back to the 10th Century, and several other Shivalayas that represent the golden era of regional dynasties. Visiting this place feels like walking through a living museum where spirituality meets historical resilience. The quiet atmosphere of the village and the proximity to the river make it a soulful retreat for history buffs. Devotees flock here during Maha Shivaratri to offer prayers and witness the ancient rituals performed with traditional fervor. The complex serves as a reminder of the artistic brilliance of the Rajas of Jetprole who patronized these structures. It is a place where every stone tells a story of survival and devotion across centuries.
