How To Reach Jetprole
Nagarkurnool, Telangana, India
Jetprole, also known as Jatprole, is a village of immense historical and religious significance in the Nagarkurnool district. It was the original seat of the Jetprole Samasthanam, one of the oldest and most influential princely states in Telangana. The village is legendary, with local folklore sugg esting that it was a site of penance for ancient sages like Agastya Muni. For centuries, Jetprole was a center of learning, Vedic studies, and temple architecture. The village is located near the confluence of the Krishna River, making it a sacred spot (Sangamam). Historically, the region was dotted with hundreds of temples, many of which had to be relocated or were submerged during the construction of the Srisailam Dam. Exploring Jetprole today is like stepping back in time; the village maintains an old-world charm with its traditional houses and historical remnants. It is most famous for the Agastheswara Swamy Temple, another architectural gem from the 10th century that was also relocated here. The village's contribution to the cultural fabric of Telangana is vast, having produced scholars, poets, and artists who were patronized by the Jetprole Rajas. The landscape is a mix of agricultural fields and riverine beauty, providing a serene backdrop for the ancient stone structures. For visitors, Jetprole offers a quiet alternative to the more crowded pilgrimage sites, allowing for a deeper connection with the region's history and spiritual heritage. It is a place where every stone has a story to tell, from the ancient inscriptions to the beautifully carved pillars of its relocated shrines.
