How To Reach Myntdu River

The Myntdu River is the lifeline of the Jaintia Hills, locally and affectionately known as 'Ka Tawiar Ka Takan' (Our Guardian Angel) in the local Pnar dialect. Originating at Mihmyntdu village adjacent to Jowai, it almost completely encircles the town, blessing the valley with abundant water used f or irrigation and daily life. The river flows across the Jaintia Hills through deep gorges, creating beautiful waterfalls like Tyrshi Falls, before eventually entering Bangladesh where it is known as the Shari River. The river valley, especially the area around Syntu Ksiar, is a scenic haven of lush green paddy fields and forests. It is central to the socio-cultural fabric of the Pnar people and is considered a holy river.:

How to Reach

By Air/Train: Follow the directions to Jowai (as in S. No. 1 & 2).

By Road: The river's banks are accessible at multiple points along the road network around Jowai. The main point is Syntu Ksiar, which is a 10Rs.15 minute drive from the Jowai town center.

By Local Transport: Local shared or private taxis from the main Jowai market can take you to the accessible points like Syntu Ksiar or the source at Mihmyntdu. Public transport is readily available for the main points.

Trekking: For the more adventurous, you can trek along the river's course, especially near Ialong Park or towards Leshka, though this requires careful planning and a local guide. :
