How To Reach Nandan Van Zoo & Safari

Raipur, Chhattisgarh, India
Introduction and Scope: Nandan Van Zoo & Safari, located in the planned city of Nava Raipur (formerly Naya Raipur), is a sprawling wildlife complex spread over 800 acres. Its main objective is the breeding and conservation of endangered species native to the region. It is not just a traditional zoo but incorporates a modern Jungle Safari concept, allowing visitors to see animals in large, naturalistic enclosures from the safety of specialized vehicles. The complex is a major initiative by the Chhattisgarh government to promote eco-tourism and wildlife education. Safari Zones: The safari is segregated into four distinct zones: the Tiger Safari, the Lion Safari, the Bear Safari, and the Herbivore Safari, each providing a unique and thrilling drive-through experience. The sheer scale and commitment to a quasi-natural habitat distinguish it from typical urban zoos. Conservation and Education: Beyond entertainment, the park plays a vital role in wildlife conservation and serves as an important educational center for students and researchers. It also features the vast Khandwa Reservoir, which is a significant attraction for migratory birds, further enhancing its ecological value. The vast land area dedicated to the animals ensures their welfare is prioritized.

How to Reach

By Air: The nearest airport is Swami Vivekanand Airport (RPR), located approximately 15 KMS away in Mana. Due to the park's location in Nava Raipur, hiring a pre-paid taxi or a ride-sharing service is the most convenient option. The drive takes about 30-40 minutes.

By Train: The main railhead is Raipur Junction Railway Station (R), about 35 KMS away. From the station, you can hire a private taxi, or an auto-rickshaw to Nava Raipur. Alternatively, some local buses run towards Nava Raipur, but a dedicated vehicle is faster and more comfortable. The journey takes over 1 hour.

By Road: Nandan Van is situated on the outskirts of Raipur in Nava Raipur (Sector-39). It is well-connected by the national highway and a four-lane road, making for a smooth drive. Follow the signs for Nava Raipur and the Jungle Safari. Self-driving or hiring a private vehicle is highly recommended.

By Local Transport: Local city buses do ply the route to Nava Raipur, but they may stop far from the exact entrance. Auto-rickshaws will be expensive for a one-way trip, so arranging a round trip taxi is the most hassle-free local option for tourists.
