How To Reach Netarhat View Tower

Netarhat, Jharkhand, India
The Netarhat View Tower or Sunrise Point stands as a testament to the raw, unspoiled beauty of Jharkhand. Perched atop the plateau, this site is strategically positioned to provide an awe-inspiring 180-degree view of the undulating, thickly forested hills and deep ravines that characterize the regio n. The moment the sun crests the horizon, the sky transforms into a canvas of vivid colors—ranging from deep indigo and soft pinks to fiery oranges and brilliant gold. This spectacular transition is what draws crowds of tourists, photographers, and nature lovers to this spot before 5:30 AM every day. The air here is crisp, clean, and often cool, even in the summer months. The entire valley below, which is typically shrouded in a dense mist or fog in the early hours, gradually unveils itself as the sun rises higher, revealing the vast expanse of the Sal and Pine forests. The experience is meditative and rejuvenating, serving as a perfect start to a day of exploring the "Queen of Chota Nagpur". The viewpoint is not merely a place for sightseeing; it is an experience that connects visitors directly to the region's serene natural rhythm. The location is easily accessible from the main Netarhat town area, which contributes to its high popularity. While the structure itself might be a simple tower or a paved viewing area, its importance lies in the unparalleled natural spectacle it offers. In many descriptions, the location is simply referred to as the Sunrise Point, emphasizing the main attraction. The platform offers safety rails and designated viewing areas to accommodate visitors comfortably. It represents the pinnacle of Netarhat's natural grandeur and is the highlight of any trip to the hill station. The deep, verdant valleys, often referred to as 'valleys of fire' in local folklore due to the intense colors of the sunrise, create a profound contrast with the distant, gentle mountain silhouettes.

How to Reach

By Air: The nearest major airport is Birsa Munda Airport (IXR) in Ranchi, the capital of Jharkhand state. The distance from Ranchi to Netarhat is approximately 155 KM. The airport is well-connected to major Indian cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, and Bangalore. Upon landing at Ranchi, visitors must hire a private taxi, a pre-booked car, or take a state-run or private bus service to cover the 4-5 hour road journey to Netarhat. This is the fastest way for long-distance travelers.

By Train: Netarhat does not have its own railway station. The most convenient major railhead is Ranchi Junction (RNC), which is roughly 154 KM away and has excellent connectivity with the rest of India. A slightly closer but smaller station is Lohardaga Railway Station, about 70 KM from Netarhat. From either station, the remaining journey must be completed by road. Private taxis are easily available outside the stations, offering a direct, though sometimes costly, ride. The journey from Ranchi is scenic and takes about 4-5 hours.

By Road: Netarhat is well-connected by a network of state and national highways, with the journey being a major part of the experience. The road from Ranchi via Mahuadanar is the most common route (NH39 and then state roads). Ranchi is 155 KM, and Daltonganj (also known as Medininagar) is about 117 KM away. State-run buses and private buses operate daily services from Ranchi and Daltonganj to Netarhat, but they can be slow. Hiring a private car or taxi is highly recommended for comfort and flexibility, especially for the early morning trip to the viewpoint.

By Local Transport: Once in Netarhat town, the viewpoint is very close—less than 1 KM from the main market/bus stand. The final distance can be covered on foot (10-15 minute walk) or by hiring a local shared taxi (mostly Sumos or Jeeps) or an auto-rickshaw for a small fare. For the early morning sunrise, it is advisable to pre-arrange transport with the local taxi union or with your hotel, especially if you are staying further away in a hotel like Prabhat Vihar.
