How To Reach Parnasala
Kothagudem, Telangana, India
Parnasala is a scenic and spiritually charged village that holds a paramount position in the Ramayana epic. It is widely believed to be the exact location where Lord Rama, Goddess Sita, and Lakshmana constructed a leaf hut (Parna-shala) and resided during the final phase of their 14-year exile. Thi s peaceful hamlet, nestled on the banks of the Godavari River, serves as a living museum of the Aranya Kanda section of the epic. Visitors can see the exact spot where the demon king Ravana is said to have abducted Goddess Sita by trickery. The landscape is dotted with natural stone formations and small streams that are intrinsically linked to the daily lives of the holy trio. The village provides a tranquil atmosphere, far from the urban bustle, allowing pilgrims to connect deeply with the simplicity and trials faced by Lord Rama. The site is managed with high reverence, featuring life-sized sculptures that recreate pivotal moments from the epic, such as the slaying of Maricha (the golden deer). For history buffs and devotees alike, Parnasala offers a rare blend of mythological authenticity and natural beauty, making it a cornerstone of the Bhadrachalam pilgrimage circuit.
