How To Reach Ramakrishna Math

Ghatsila, Jharkhand, India
Ramakrishna Math, Ghatsila is a branch center of the worldwide Ramakrishna Order, headquartered at Belur Math, West Bengal. It is not just a temple but a hub for spiritual, educational, and philanthropic activities, embodying the ideals of Ramakrishna Paramahamsa and Swami Vivekananda. The center wa s originally established as the Ramakrishna-Vivekananda Ashrama in 1941 and was hallowed by the visit of Srimat Swami Vijnananandaji Maharaj, a direct disciple of Bhagawan Sri Ramakrishna Deva, in 1936. It officially became a branch of the Ramakrishna Math in May 2004. The Math is situated on a peaceful campus in the town of Dahigora, offering a serene atmosphere for spiritual seekers and devotees. The primary goal of the Math is summarized by the motto of the Order: "Atmano Mokshartham Jagaddhitaya Cha" (For one's own liberation and for the welfare of the world). The Math conducts daily prayers, Arati, scriptural classes, and celebrates major Hindu festivals, especially the birth anniversaries of the Holy Trio (Sri Ramakrishna, Holy Mother Sri Sarada Devi, and Swami Vivekananda). It actively engages in various forms of social service, including providing educational, medical, and pecuniary assistance to the local community, continuing the tradition of selfless work laid down by Swami Vivekananda. Visitors come here for peace, spiritual guidance, and to witness the dedicated service activities of the monastic community.

How to Reach

The Ramakrishna Math, Ghatsila is highly accessible via all major transport routes, owing to Ghatsila's status as a well-known sub-divisional town.

By Air: The nearest major airport is Birsa Munda Airport in Ranchi (IXR), approximately 169 KMS away. From the airport, one can hire a pre-paid taxi or take a bus to Ghatsila. A closer, more convenient alternative is the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport in Kolkata (CCU), which is about 240-250 KMS away and better connected by road and rail to Ghatsila.

By Train: Ghatsila Railway Station (GTS) is the most convenient point of arrival. It is a well-connected station on the Howrah-Mumbai mainline (via Tatanagar/Jamshedpur). Numerous express and passenger trains from major cities like Kolkata, Jamshedpur, Ranchi, and other parts of Jharkhand and Bengal stop here. The Math is located just 0. 5 KMS to 1. 5 KMS from the railway station, making it extremely easy to reach.

By Road: Ghatsila is well-connected by National Highway (NH-18, formerly NH-33) and is about 45 KMS from Jamshedpur and approximately 240 KMS from Kolkata. Regular bus services (both private and state-run) operate from Jamshedpur, Ranchi, and Kolkata. Hiring a private cab or driving your own car is also a comfortable option, and the Math is located in the Dahigora locality, which is easily signposted from the main road.

By Local Transport: From Ghatsila Railway Station or the main market, you can easily hire an auto-rickshaw or a cycle-rickshaw to reach the Math, which is a very short ride (approximately 5-10 minutes). Given the short distance from the city center, a brisk walk is also a pleasant option.
