Jiranga Monastery
Jiranga Monastery, officially known as the Padmasambhava Mahavihara, is the largest Buddhist monastery in Eastern India. It was inaugurated by the Dalai Lama in 2010. Located in the lush green hills of Chandragiri, it serves as a spiritual home for the Tibetan refugee community that settled here in the 1960s. The monastery is a symbol of peace, resilience, and cultural preservation. The entire complex is surrounded by beautiful gardens and high mountains, providing a tranquil environment for meditation. The main temple houses a massive golden statue of Lord Buddha and is decorated with intricate murals depicting Buddhist mythology. The atmosphere is filled with the sound of chanting monks and prayer bells, creating a deeply spiritual experience. It is not just a religious site but a center for Tibetan learning and culture.
