Things To Do
-
Exploring the Tiers: One of the best things to do is to safely climb the rocky steps (when not slippery) to see the different levels of the fall. The flat rocks provide a great place to sit and relax.
Picnicking with Family: The area is perfect for a traditional Bastar style picnic; locals often bring wood and cook fresh meals near the banks.
Nature Photography: Photographers can spend hours capturing long-exposure shots of the cascading water against the dark rocks.
Bird Watching: The dense foliage around the falls is home to various forest birds, making it a delight for birders.
River Wading: In the summer months, the water level is low enough to safely wade in the cool stream of the Mungabahar.

Why Famous:
The Tiered Cascade: The primary reason for its fame is the unique stepwise descent of the water, which creates a mesmerizing visual pattern. Unlike a straight drop, the water at Mandwa breaks against several rock levels, making it look like a white staircase of foam. The Tiered Cascade: The primary reason for its fame is the unique stepwise descent of the water, which creates a mesmerizing visual pattern. Proximity to Tirathgarh: It is also famous for being the source stream that eventually forms the legendary Tirathgarh waterfall further downstream. This connection makes it a vital part of the regional water system and a must-visit for geography enthusiasts. -

The waterfall features a distinct hierarchical or stepwise structure. The water descends over massive rock cliffs that stretch to a width of nearly 200 to 300 feet at various points. The total vertical drop of the main cascade is approximately 70 feet. Near the waterfall, there is a small, simple shrine dedicated to Lord Shiva, featuring a Shivalinga and stone idols of Nandi.
Geological Layout: The plateau above the falls consists of flat, horizontal basaltic rocks that create natural viewing platforms for tourists. The reservoir formed at the base is shallow and safe for wading during the dry season. The layout of the rocks allows the water to spread out, creating a curtain-like effect during peak flow. -
