Chitradhara Falls

Bastar, Chhattisgarh, India
Chitradhara Falls is a beautiful horseshoe-shaped waterfall located just a short drive from the district headquarters of Bastar. The name is a combination of two words: "Chitra" meaning picture and "Dhara" meaning flow, literally translating to a "Picture-perfect Flow." This waterfall is formed by a small stream that eventually joins the Indravati River. During the monsoon, the water gushes down with immense force, looking like a sheet of white silk draped over the hills. In the summer, the flow thins out into multiple small streams, revealing the intricate rock patterns beneath. The site is located in the quiet village of Potnar, making it much more peaceful than the famous Chitrakote. It is a favorite spot for local families for weekend picnics. The waterfall drops from a height of about 50 feet initially, followed by a second drop of nearly 100 feet as it moves into the valley. The lush green surroundings and the absence of commercial crowds make it a serene destination for those who want to experience the raw beauty of Bastar without the noise of mass tourism.
