Rajkumar College

Raipur, Chhattisgarh, India
Historical Foundation: Rajkumar College (RKC) in Raipur is one of the oldest K-12 educational institutions in India, with a legacy dating back to 1882. It was initially founded in Jabalpur by Sir Andrew Henderson Leith Fraser and the British authorities to educate the sons of the local princely rule rs and Zamindars of the region, hence its original designation as a 'Chiefs' College'. It was shifted to its present and permanent site in Raipur in 1894. The Princely Connection: The college was established with generous donations from the rulers of the Chhattisgarh Feudatory States and local landlords, making it an institution with deep historical ties to the region's royal past. In 1939, it became a founding member of the Public School Conference and began opening its doors to non-princely boys, broadening its influence. Current Status: Today, RKC is a co-educational, residential-cum-day boarding public school affiliated with the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE). It retains a prestigious reputation for academic excellence, sports, and all-round development, continuing its tradition of shaping future leaders on its historic, sprawling campus. Its history is intertwined with the political development of Chhattisgarh.
