Hunderman is not just a village; it's a living museum, often referred to as a "Museum of Memories." This remote hamlet, perched on a hill overlooking the Line of Control, has a tumultuous history intertwined with the geopolitical conflict of the region. Before 1971, Hunderman was part of Pakistan-oc cupied Kashmir. After the 1971 Indo-Pak war, it came under Indian administration. Its original inhabitants, the Balti people, either fled or remained, and the village now exists as a poignant reminder of a divided past. The village is a cluster of traditional stone and mud houses, many of which are now abandoned and serve as a ghostly testament to the villagers' former lives. The "Museum of Memories" is an initiative by a local resident to preserve the history and artifacts of the village. It contains old household items, photographs, and personal belongings of the residents, telling the story of their displacement and their subsequent return. The village?s unique location provides a clear view of the LoC, making a visit both a historical and a very real political experience. The stark landscape and the silent houses create a somber and powerful atmosphere, offering a profound lesson in history that cannot be found in any textbook.
