Gadsar Lake

Gadsar Lake, meaning 'Lake of Fishes', is a high-altitude alpine oligotrophic lake, one of the primary attractions on the famous Kashmir Great Lakes Trek (KGL). Situated at an elevation of approximately 3,810 meters (12,500 ft), it is fed by glacial melt from the surrounding peaks. The lake is set i n a breathtaking natural amphitheater, flanked by imposing mountains and vibrant alpine meadows often carpeted with wildflowers in summer. Its waters are known for their crystal clarity and significant population of Brown Trout, making it a popular spot for angling enthusiasts (with a permit). The trek to reach it is moderately challenging but immensely rewarding, passing through two high passes.
