Shota Talab
Shota Talab (Small Pond) is a historical water body located in the heart of the city, often overshadowed by the larger sacred sarovar of Darbar Sahib. Despite its name, the pond carries significant local history and was once a primary source of water for the old town settlements. Legend says that d uring the Battle of Muktsar, various smaller water bodies in this region served as tactical points for the Sikh warriors. Today, it has been developed into a local recreation area where people come for morning walks and to feed the fish. The pond is surrounded by a walking track and small seating areas. It provides a cooling effect to the nearby residential areas during the intense heat of May and June. While not as grand as the main shrines, it offers a glimpse into the everyday life of the people of Muktsar. The local municipal corporation has made efforts to beautify the surroundings with lights and benches. It is a place where you can see the local elders discussing politics and history under the shade of the trees. The pond ecosystem still supports local birdlife and aquatic species.
