Tapovan Caves and Hills
Tapovan translates to 'forest of meditation' (Tapobhumi), aptly named because it was historically a sacred ground for ascetics and sages to perform penance and seek spiritual enlightenment. The hill is a major attraction, combining religious sanctity with natural, rocky beauty. The most significant feature is the Tapo Nath Mahadev Temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva, housed within a cave on the hill. It is believed that the great Sanskrit poet Sage Valmiki came here to meditate. Another famous sage, Sri Sri Balananda Brahmachari, also spent time in penance in these caves.
