Tenughat Dam

Bokaro, Jharkhand, India
Tenughat Dam is one of the largest and most impressive earthfill dams in India, constructed across the Damodar River. Completed in 1978, this massive structure was built primarily to supply water to the Bokaro Steel Plant and for local irrigation. The reservoir created by the dam is vast, covering an area of about 30 square kilometers, and looks like a mini-sea with its endless blue waters. Surrounded by lush hills and dense forests, the dam area has evolved into a premier picnic and tourism destination in Jharkhand. The serene environment, combined with the rhythmic sound of water, makes it a perfect spot for relaxation. During the winter months, the dam attracts many migratory birds, adding to its natural charm. It is not just an engineering marvel but also a testament to the industrial growth of the region, seamlessly blending utility with scenic beauty.
