Travel Tips Of Devsangha Ashram
Tourism Tips
Water and Footwear: Always carry your own water bottle, especially during the summer, and drink only bottled or filtered water. The Ashram is a clean, tranquil place, but it is wise to maintain caution regarding food from outside vendors. Remove footwear before entering the temple premises, as is customary. Be mindful of pickpockets in crowded areas, especially during major festivals like Durga Puja.
Packing Essentials:
Modest Attire: Pack modest, conservative clothing suitable for a spiritual site. Shoulders and knees should ideally be covered as a sign of respect. Light cotton clothes are best for the summer (April to June), and light woolens are necessary for the winter mornings and evenings (November to February). Carry sun protection (hat, sunscreen) and mosquito repellent, particularly if visiting during the monsoon.
Accommodation Options:
Near and Far: Deoghar offers a wide range of accommodation. For convenience, consider staying near the Baidyanath Dham temple area or the Baidyanathdham Railway Station, which are both close to the Ashram. Options range from budget guesthouses and dharamshalas (rest houses) to mid-range and luxury hotels. The Ashram itself may offer basic accommodation for its dedicated sadhaks (spiritual practitioners), which should be inquired about directly.
Respect and Etiquette:
Maintain Silence: The Ashram is a place of deep contemplation and spiritual practice. Visitors must maintain decorum, silence, and respect for the resident monks and devotees. Avoid loud conversations, particularly in the temple and meditation areas. Always seek permission before taking photographs of individuals. Do not touch the idols or sacred objects.
Financial/Currency Tips: While digital payments are becoming common, carry sufficient cash for local transport (auto-rickshaws) and small purchases, as many local vendors prefer it.
Language: The primary languages spoken are Hindi and Bengali. English is generally understood at hotels and major tourist spots.
