Travel Tips Of Nandikonda
Nalgonda, Telangana, India
Nandikonda, also known as Vijayapuri, is a historically significant village on the banks of the Krishna River. It served as the capital of the Ikshvaku Dynasty in the 3rd century AD. The site gained global attention during the construction of the Nagarjuna Sagar Dam when massive archaeological exca vations unearthed Buddhist monasteries, pillared halls, and a stadium. Today, it is a serene village that balances its ancient Buddhist identity with the modern marvel of the dam. The name Vijayapuri translates to 'City of Victory,' reflecting its past glory. Visitors can explore the remnants of a highly sophisticated civilization that once thrived here. The area is also deeply connected to Acharya Nagarjuna, the great Buddhist philosopher who spent his later years in this region. The site effectively bridges the gap between the Vedic and Buddhist eras of Indian history.
