Varakkal Beach
Detailed Description: Varakkal Beach is a unique blend of coastal beauty and religious sanctity, located away from the primary tourist rush of the main Calicut Beach. It is geographically significant because of the Varakkal Devi Temple perched on a hillock overlooking the waves. The beach is known f or its relatively calm waters and golden sands that stretch for nearly 2 Kms. Local legends say that the great sage Parasurama created this spot, making it a holy site for Hindus to perform ancestral rites known as Vavu Bali. Unlike other commercial beaches, Varakkal retains a peaceful atmosphere where one can hear the crashing waves without the noise of heavy crowds. The sunsets here are particularly striking, painting the sky in deep hues of orange and purple. The presence of a children’s park and a skating track makes it a favorite for local families. In September, the beach becomes the focal point of the Navarathri celebrations, where thousands gather for temple rituals. The coastline is dotted with small rocks that serve as natural seats for visitors to sit and contemplate the horizon.
