The dam spans approximately 110 meters in length and stands at a significant hei...The Dam Structure: The Bhoothathankettu Dam features a unique architectural blend where massive, unshaped stone blocks are positioned naturally alongside modern concrete irrigation structures. The dam spans approximately 110 meters in length and stands at a significant height to regulate the flow of the Periyar River into the Periyar Valley Irrigation Project.
Design and Layout: The architectural layout includes a main barrage with multiple shutters that control water release, and a newly constructed parallel bridge measuring 296 meters in length and 11 meters in width to facilitate transport. The old dam site showcases the "natural" stone formations believed to be the work of spirits, which are actually the result of prehistoric floods. -
