Anshi National Park

Dandeli, Karnataka, India
The Anshi National Park, now part of the Kali Tiger Reserve, is a pristine wilderness located in the heart of the Western Ghats. It spans over 340 square kilometers of dense evergreen and semi-evergreen forests, making it a critical habitat for diverse flora and fauna. The park is world-renowned as the only place in Asia where you can spot the elusive Black Panther in its natural habitat. The landscape is characterized by deep valleys, steep hills, and the flowing Kali River, which provides life to the myriad species residing here. Visitors often describe the atmosphere as mystical due to the heavy canopy that barely lets sunlight touch the forest floor. The biodiversity is staggering, with over 200 species of birds and several endangered mammals. It was established as a national park in 1987 and later merged with the Dandeli Wildlife Sanctuary to form the tiger reserve. The park serves as a vital corridor for tiger migration and conservation in South India.
