Dandeli Wildlife Sanctuary
Second Largest Sanctuary in Karnataka: Spanning 866.41 sq. km, this is the second-largest wildlife sanctuary in Karnataka, now forming a crucial part of the Kali Tiger Reserve. The landscape ranges from 100m to 970m in altitude, featuring dense moist deciduous and semi-evergreen forests, crisscrosse d by the Kaneri and Nagzari rivers (tributaries of the Kali River). It is famous as one of the few places in Asia to spot the rare Black Panther, besides sheltering tigers, elephants, gaur (Indian bison), sloth bears, and a diverse range of birds, especially the magnificent Great Indian Hornbill.
