Kavala Caves
An Adventurous Spiritual Journey: Located deep within the Dandeli Wildlife Sanctuary, the Kavala Caves are ancient limestone caves believed to have been formed by volcanic activity and in existence since prehistoric times. The main attraction is a naturally formed Shiva Lingam located at the end of the cave system. To reach this spiritual and geological wonder, visitors must first descend a challenging flight of approximately 375 steps (or 540 steps according to some sources) and then crawl for about 40 feet through a narrow, dark tunnel to get a glimpse of the naturally textured, four-foot-high Lingam.
