Barura Sharif
Barura Sharif is a revered Sufi shrine located on the banks of the Saat Bahini river in the Chatra district. It is the Mazar (tomb) of the saint Data Amir Ali Shah, who is highly respected by people of all faiths. This site is a powerful example of India’s syncretic culture, where Hindus and Musl ims gather together to seek spiritual healing. The shrine is built on an elevated platform about 10 feet high to protect it from the river's seasonal flow. Legend has it that the saint possessed miraculous powers to heal people suffering from psychological ailments and "evil spirits." During the annual Urs, the atmosphere becomes festive, with stalls selling traditional sweets, attar (perfume), and religious artifacts. The river crossing adds a unique element to the pilgrimage, especially during the dry season when the sandy bed is exposed.
