Dhakpo Shedrupling Monastery
Details: Dhakpo Shedrupling Monastery, commonly known as the Kais Monastery, was inaugurated by His Holiness the Dalai Lama in 2005. It is a major center for Buddhist studies and is situated in a picturesque location on the left bank of the Beas River. The monastery is home to a large community of m onks who follow the Gelugpa school of Tibetan Buddhism. It stands out due to its grand structure and the backdrop of lush green mountains. The main hall houses a massive gilded statue of Buddha, surrounded by smaller deities and sacred texts. The atmosphere here is one of profound peace and discipline. Visitors can often see young monks engaged in debates or practicing their chants. The climb of about 50 steps to the main entrance offers a great view of the surrounding apple orchards. It is considered one of the most beautiful and well-maintained monasteries in Northern India, serving as a beacon of spirituality in the Kullu region.
