Legend suggests it was excavated by the powerful king Bhagadatta during the Mahabharata era for a military purpose, possibly to serve as a naval harbor connecting to the Brahmaputra River. Historical records confirm that the kings of the ancient Kamarupa kingdom utilized the pond for military exercises. Today, the pond and its surrounding area have been beautifully developed into the Dighali Pukhuri Park, transforming it into a popular recreational hub.
