History and Significance: This exquisite Mughal mausoleum was built between 1622 and 1628 by Noor Jahan, the wife of Emperor Jahangir, for her father, Mirza Ghiyas Beg (who held the title Itmad-ud-Daulah, or 'Pillar of the State'), and her mother, Asmat Begum. It is famously known as the "Baby Taj M ahal" and is considered a transitional structure in Mughal architecture. It marks the first Mughal structure built entirely of white marble and the first to extensively use the intricate pietra dura (stone inlay) technique, which would later be perfected in the Taj Mahal. It is a testament to the love and devotion of a daughter for her parents, standing proudly on the eastern bank of the River Yamuna. The Persian influence on its design and decoration is strong, reflecting the heritage of Mirza Ghiyas Beg's family.
