Nityanandasramam, located in Kanhangad, is a spiritual sanctuary founded by the revered saint Swami Nityananda. Situated atop a small hill near the ruins of the Hosdurg Fort, the ashram is a unique blend of spirituality and architectural marvel. Its most striking feature is the collection of 43 man -made caves carved out of a single laterite hill. It is said that Swami Nityananda himself participated in the excavation of these caves, which were designed for silent meditation. Above these caves stands a magnificent temple dedicated to the Swami, featuring a stunning "Panchaloha" (five-metal alloy) idol of him in a meditative pose. The temple's design is inspired by the famous Somanatha Temple in Gujarat, lending it a grand and divine appearance. The ashram is surrounded by lush green groves, providing a tranquil environment for seekers of peace. Nearby is Guruvanam, another sacred spot where the Swami spent his early years in deep meditation. The ashram provides free food (Annadanam) to visitors and poor children, continuing the Swami's legacy of selfless service. It is not just a destination for Hindus but a place for anyone looking to escape the chaos of modern life. The vibration of the caves is said to be intensely spiritual, making it a favorite for practitioners of Yoga and Dhyana.
