Ghangad Fort

Lavasa, Maharashtra, India
Ghangad Fort is a 300-year-old hill fortress located in the Tamhini region of the Pune district. Historically, it served as a strategic watchtower to monitor the trade routes between the Konkan and the Deccan plateau. The fort was under the Maratha empire until 1818, after which it was surrendered to the British following the fall of Korigad. In 2026, the fort is a popular destination for trekkers who appreciate its unique structure and the stunning views it offers of Tailbaila, Korigad, and Sudhagad. The trek is relatively easy, starting from the base village of Ekole. The fort features two main gates, though much of the original masonry is in ruins. A highlight of the visit is the iron ladder installed by local groups to help visitors reach the Balekilla (top citadel). The plateau at the top provides a 360-degree view of the Sahyadri mountain ranges. The area is surrounded by dense forests, making it a perfect spot for nature lovers. The fort's isolation ensures a peaceful experience compared to more commercialized forts like Lohagad. Villagers in Ekole have become active in fort restoration and provide authentic hospitality to visitors. :
