Harila Jori, a small village located about 5 kilometers north of Deoghar, holds immense mythological and spiritual significance. The name "Harila Jori" is a corruption of "Hari Har Jori," which literally means the "union of Hari (Lord Vishnu) and Har (Lord Shiva)." The place is steeped in the same l egend as the Baba Baidyanath Dham, where the demon king Ravana was tricked into placing the Shiva lingam on the ground. It is believed that this is the exact spot where Lord Vishnu, disguised as a shepherd boy, met Ravana and took the lingam from him. The site is home to a small Shiva temple with an ancient lingam that is believed to have sprouted from beneath a Myrobalan (Haritaki) tree, which is why it is also known as "Haritkinath" or "Haritkinath Mahadev." The lingam is considered to be a Swayambhu Lingam, meaning it is self-manifested. The temple is a beautiful and serene place for quiet reflection and prayer. The temple's sanctum sanctorum houses the Shiva lingam, which is a major attraction for pilgrims.
