How To Reach Ashoka Beach

Kovalam, Kerala, India
Ashoka Beach, sometimes locally known by its fishing village name Adimalathura, is one of the three famous crescent-shaped beaches that make up the Kovalam coastline. It is generally considered the northernmost section, acting as a secluded and tranquil extension of the main Samudra Beach. Unlike th e bustling atmosphere of the more commercial Lighthouse Beach, Ashoka Beach is known for its solitude and serene ambiance, making it a favorite spot for those seeking peace, quiet reflection, and a less-crowded beach experience. This relative seclusion has also led to the growth of several Ayurvedic spa centers and resorts in the immediate vicinity, catering to guests looking to de-stress and rejuvenate. The beach is characterized by its sparkling white sands and the sight of local life, including fishing canoes, as it remains closer to a traditional fishing community than the other parts of Kovalam. The famous, now-defunct Kovalam Ashok Beach Resort was historically located here, which is why the area and the beach often bear the name Ashoka Beach. The presence of a fishing village means visitors can observe the daily routines of the local fishermen—a simple, authentic slice of Kerala coastal life. The beach is a picture-perfect spot, surrounded by lush green coconut and palm groves that run down to the shoreline. The waves here can sometimes be strong, and visitors are generally advised to be cautious or avoid swimming during high tides or periods of rough sea. The calmness and picturesque nature attract romantic couples and individuals looking for a meditative spot away from the major tourist crowds. ---

How to Reach

By Air: Trivandrum International Airport (TRV) The closest airport is the Trivandrum International Airport (TRV), approximately 15-16 KMS away. Visitors can hire pre-paid taxis, app-based cabs, or arrange a private transfer to the Ashoka Beach/Adimalathura area. The drive typically takes about 30 to 45 minutes. The airport's proximity makes Ashoka Beach easily accessible for both domestic and international tourists.

By Train: Thiruvananthapuram Central Railway Station (TVC) The nearest major railway hub is Thiruvananthapuram Central Railway Station (TVC), located about 14 KMS from the beach. The station is well-connected to all major cities in India. From the station, a taxi or auto-rickshaw is the most direct way to reach the Adimalathura area. The journey by road takes approximately 30 to 40 minutes.

By Road:

Connecting from Kovalam: The beach is easily accessible by road via the local network that branches off from the main Kovalam area roads. Visitors driving a private vehicle can follow signs towards Samudra Beach and continue north towards the Adimalathura area. State-run buses (from Thiruvananthapuram) or local private buses generally drop visitors at the main Kovalam bus stand, from where an auto-rickshaw or a short taxi ride is necessary to reach the secluded beach.

By Local Transport:

Auto-Rickshaws and Walking: From the other Kovalam beaches (Lighthouse or Hawah), the most common form of transport is the auto-rickshaw. It's a quick, affordable, and scenic ride. Ensure you negotiate the fare beforehand. For a healthy and scenic option, a pleasant walk from Lighthouse Beach over the headlands (passing near the Halcyon Castle) to Samudra Beach and then onto Ashoka Beach is possible, offering beautiful views along the way, though the walk can take 20-30 minutes. ---
