It was originally constructed around 1830 by Chhatrapati Pratapsinh Maharaj as a 'Nazar Mahal' or viewing gallery, primarily for the royal ladies to watch the annual Dasar a procession. Later, it was dedicated as a memorial to the martyrs (Hutatma) of the First War of Indian Independence in 1857, particularly honoring figures like Rani Laxmibai, Tatya Tope, and Rango Bapuji Gupte. By Air: Nearest airport is Pune International Airport (PNQ) (approx. 115 km). From Pune, taxi or bus to Satara city. :

By Train: Nearest major station is Satara Railway Station (STR). From the station, the memorial is about 5 km. Take an auto-rickshaw or taxi. :

By Road: Easily accessible from the Satara City Bus Stand (1-2 km) and located on the main road leading up to Ajinkyatara Fort. Satara is on NH48. :

By Local Transport: A quick and cheap auto-rickshaw ride from any part of Satara city. It is also walkable from the old city center (Rajwada). Local Transport is the most recommended way. :
