It is housed in a temple complex constructed during the height of the Vijayanagara Empire in the 15th century. The name Kadalekalu comes from the Kannada words Kadale (Bengal gram/chickpea) and Kalu (seed/grain), given because the statue's potbelly resembles a Bengal gram seed. This statue is still revered and serves as a powerful testament to the religious devotion and artistic skill of the period. The open pillared hall in front was a great space for devotees.Mythological Significance::Lord Ganesha is the Remover of Obstacles, and his presence in this giant form on the route to the main city center was symbolic of blessing and protection for the incoming citizens and royalty.
