History and Significance: The Khas Mahal (or 'Private Palace') is considered one of the most beautiful structures within the Agra Fort complex, commissioned by Emperor Shah Jahan between 1631 and 1640. It was built as his private residence (Aram Gah or Resting Place) and served as the living quarter s (Harem) for the royal ladies, including his favorite daughters, Jahanara and Roshanara. This palace marks Shah Jahan's signature shift from the red sandstone of his predecessors (Akbar and Jahangir) to the pristine, elegant white marble that dominates his architecture, most notably the Taj Mahal. It is strategically built on an elevated platform overlooking the River Yamuna on one side and the Anguri Bagh (Grape Garden) on the other. It is a prime example of the refinement and luxurious taste of Shah Jahan's court, reflecting his preference for delicate detail, symmetry, and the use of white marble.

How to Reach

By Air: The nearest airport is Agra's Kheria Airport (AGR), approximately 8 KMS away. Take a taxi or auto-rickshaw to the Agra Fort.

By Train: The Agra Fort Railway Station is the closest, located opposite the main fort entrance, about 1 KM away. Agra Cantonment (AGC) is about 5 KMS away. Take a taxi or auto-rickshaw to the fort.

By Road: Agra Fort is centrally located and easily accessible by road from all parts of the city. Use a taxi, ride-sharing service, or auto-rickshaw. It is a short, easy ride from the Taj Mahal (approx. 2. 5 KMS).

By Local Transport: Auto-rickshaws and taxis are the most common transport options. Tourists must enter the fort through the Amar Singh Gate. The palace is deep inside the fort complex, requiring a significant walk.
