How To Reach Loharu Fort

Bhiwani, Haryana, India
Loharu Fort is a monumental historical structure that stands as a silent witness to the turbulent history of the Shekhawati region. Originally built in 1570 AD by Thakur Arjan Singh, a Hindu Rajput, it started as a humble mud fort designed to protect the local population from invaders. Over the cen turies, the fort underwent several transformations as it passed through the hands of various rulers, including the Nawabs of Loharu. The fort is strategically located on the border of Haryana and Rajasthan, making it a vital military outpost in the past. It is famous for its association with the family of Begum Zafar Mahal, the wife of the last Mughal Emperor, Bahadur Shah Zafar. The fort complex is quite extensive, featuring massive walls, grand gateways, and several internal buildings that showcase a mix of different architectural eras. Although parts of the fort are in a state of ruin, the main entrance and some of the internal halls still retain their former glory. The Government of Haryana recently designated it as a state-protected monument to ensure its preservation. Walking through the fort feels like stepping back into the 16th century, with its narrow passages and secret chambers. The fort was also a center of administrative power for the Loharu Princely State during the British Raj. Today, it serves as a major tourist attraction for history buffs and architecture enthusiasts who want to explore the lesser-known forts of North India. The local community has many legends about the hidden treasures and secret tunnels that once connected the fort to nearby regions. Visiting Loharu Fort provides a deep insight into the feudal history of India and the architectural evolution of defensive structures over four hundred years.
