Historical Significance: The Padmakshi Temple, originally a Jain Basadi (temple), is a historically significant 12th-century shrine located on a hillock, or gutta, in Hanamkonda. Its history is intrinsically linked to the Kakatiya dynasty's religious evolution, as the early Kakatiya rulers, beginnin g with Prolaraju II, were patrons of Jainism. When the dynasty later converted to Veerashaivism, the Jain shrine was converted to a Hindu temple dedicated to Goddess Padmakshi (believed to be a form of Goddess Parvati or the Jain Yakshini Padmavati). Religious Importance: Today, the temple is a major spiritual center, attracting a large number of Hindu devotees, especially women from the Telangana region, as it is the central and most important venue for the annual Bathukamma festival celebrations. The serene location atop the hill offers a peaceful spiritual environment. Unique Syncretism: The temple is a rare example of religious syncretism, where the structural elements and carvings of the original Jain structure coexist with the Hindu deity and rituals, making it a unique pilgrimage site that showcases the religious tolerance and transformations of the medieval Deccan.

How to Reach

By Air (): Nearest airport is Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (HYD) in Hyderabad (approx. 170 KMS). From Hyderabad, take a bus or train to Warangal and then local transport to Hanamkonda.

By Train (): Nearest railhead is Warangal Railway Station (WL) or Kazipet Junction (KZJ). The temple is about 6 KMS from Warangal Station and about 3-4 KMS from the Hanamkonda Bus Stand.

By Road (): The temple is located in Hanamkonda, which is part of the Warangal-Hanamkonda-Kazipet tri-city area, easily reachable by NH-163 from Hyderabad. State and private buses are available to the Hanamkonda Bus Stand (500 meters away).

Local Transport: Auto-rickshaws or shared autos are the primary mode of transport. Vehicles are generally allowed up to the temple on the hill.
