How To Reach Raisi Shah's Temple
A Spiritual and Historical Hub: Raisi Shah's Temple, also often referred to as a Derasar, stands as a pivotal religious site for the Swetambar Jain community in Jamnagar. It is one of a cluster of four highly revered marble Jain temples in the city, established by influential community figures like Vardhaman Shah, Raisi Shah, Sheth, and Vasupujya Swami. The construction date of this temple, along with the others in the group, is generally traced back to the city's early history, sometime after the founding of Nawanagar by Jam Rawal in 1540 A.D. From the airport, one can hire a taxi or a pre-paid auto-rickshaw to cover the 30-minute drive to the city center and the temple. The route into the old city may involve some final slow driving through congested streets.
By Train: The Jamnagar Railway Station (JAM) is the most convenient point of arrival, located just about 3 KMS from the temple. The station is a major stop with regular services from Rajkot, Ahmedabad, and other distant metropolitan areas. An auto-rickshaw is the best option from the station, taking about 10-15 minutes, but drivers should be clearly told the destination is the Bedi Gate temple area, as there are many Jain temples.
By Road: Jamnagar is excellently connected by the National Highway network. State transport buses (GSRTC) and private vehicles arriving from Rajkot (90 KMS) or Ahmedabad (330 KMS) will enter the city through the main bus depot near Bedi Gate. From the main city roads, the final approach to the temple requires navigation through the historic, often very narrow, and congested lanes of the old city, making walking or taking a small auto-rickshaw the ideal final transport method to reach the doorstep.
