How To Reach Ulsoor Lake

Ulsoor Lake, also known as Halasuru Lake, is one of the largest and oldest man-made lakes in Bengaluru, spreading over an area of approximately 125 acres (or 50 hectares) in the eastern part of the city. While an initial tank was built during the time of Kempe Gowda I, the lake in its current form w as mainly enhanced or developed in the 19th Century by Sir Lewin Bentham Bowring, the then Commissioner of Bangalore. A City Oasis: This picturesque water body, with its several small islands, serves as a significant green lung for the city, offering a tranquil escape from the urban hustle and bustle. The lake is a popular spot for morning joggers, families, and nature enthusiasts seeking peace and natural beauty. Recreational Hub: The lake complex is equipped with a recreational complex, which includes a swimming pool, and it is a popular destination for boating. The KSTDC manages the boat club, offering various boating facilities, including paddle boats and rowboats, which allow visitors to explore the lake's islands. Cultural Importance: Ulsoor Lake holds cultural importance as well. It is a central point for the celebration of the Ganesh Chaturthi festival, where the immersion of idols takes place. Nearby, the famous and ancient Someshwara Temple, built in the Dravidian style, adds a spiritual dimension to the scenic landscape. It remains a cherished spot for relaxation, water activities, and bird watching.

How to Reach

By Air: The nearest airport is Kempegowda International Airport Bengaluru (BLR), located approximately 40 kilometers from Ulsoor Lake. From the airport, visitors can hire a pre-paid taxi, use a ride-sharing service, or take the BMTC Vayu Vajra bus service to the MG Road area, from where the lake is a short local ride away.

By Train: The lake is about 7. 5 kilometers from the Bangalore City Railway Station (KSR Bengaluru) and approximately 5 kilometers from the Bangalore Cantonment Railway Station (BNC). A taxi or auto-rickshaw ride from either station is the most straightforward way to reach the lake, generally taking 20-30 minutes depending on the traffic on the way.

By Road: Ulsoor Lake is located in the eastern part of Bengaluru, very close to major commercial and residential areas like MG Road, Indiranagar, and Commercial Street. It is easily reachable by car or private taxi. Parking is usually available near the lake premises, but it can be limited, especially on weekends or during special events.

By Local Transport:

Metro: The nearest Namma

Metro station is Halasuru (Ulsoor) station on the Purple Line, which is conveniently located at a short walking distance (less than 1 kilometer) from the lake. This is arguably the easiest and fastest way to reach the area.

Bus: The Ulsoor

Bus Stop is well-connected by numerous BMTC city buses from all parts of Bengaluru. The bus is a very economical option.

Auto-rickshaw/Taxi: Auto-rickshaws and app-based cabs are widely available and can take you directly to the lakeside. The use of the

Metro or a short auto-rickshaw ride from the

Metro station is highly recommended to bypass city traffic.
