Jwala Devi Temple

Pragpur, Himachal Pradesh, India
Jwala Devi Temple, also known as Jwalamukhi, is one of the 51 Shakti Peethas where the tongue of Goddess Sati is believed to have fallen. Unlike other temples, there is no idol here; instead, the deity is worshipped in the form of nine eternal flames that emerge from the crevices of the rock. These flames have been burning for centuries without any known source of fuel. Historically, the Mughal Emperor Akbar once tried to extinguish the flames with water and a golden umbrella, but when he witnessed the miracle of the persistent fire, he became a devotee and offered a gold canopy. The temple is a major pilgrimage hub, attracting millions who seek the "flaming mouth" of the goddess. The surrounding town is vibrant with spiritual energy, shops selling offerings, and ancient legends that resonate through the hills. It is a place where faith and mystery coexist in the form of natural blue flames.
