Kadem Project

Nirmal, Telangana, India
The Kadem Project, also known as the Kadam Dam, is a major multipurpose reservoir built across the Kadem River, a tributary of the Godavari. Construction began in 1949 and was completed in 1964. The dam was officially renamed as the Kadam Narayana Reddy Project in honor of a prominent local leader. It serves as a vital source of irrigation for over 25,000 hectares of land in the Nirmal and Mancherial districts. The dam is located at the scenic confluence where the Kadem River meets the Godavari. Surrounded by rolling hills and lush greenery, the reservoir has become a popular spot for picnics and nature outings. The site features a well-maintained park and boating facilities that attract families from nearby towns. During the monsoon season, when the floodgates are opened, the sight of the gushing water is truly majestic and draws large crowds. The reservoir also supports local fishing communities and provides water for the nearby Kawal Tiger Reserve. It is a perfect blend of engineering utility and natural beauty, making it a key landmark in the geography of Telangana. :
