Kalesar Wildlife Sanctuary

Yamunanagar, Haryana, India:
Notified on December 13, 1996, the Kalesar Wildlife Sanctuary is immediately adjacent to, and an integral part of, the larger Kalesar protected area, spanning 13,209 acres (53.45 sq km). It pre-dates the National Park and shares the same diverse landscape of dense Sal and Khair forests and grassland s in the Shivalik foothills. It is a critical habitat for animals such as the Indian Leopard, Sambar Deer, Barking Deer, Ghoral (found in the rocky terrain), Python, King Cobra, and Red Jungle Fowl. Its strategic location makes it a crucial part of the ecological corridor linking the protected areas of the neighboring states, ensuring the movement and conservation of large mammals. The sanctuary is also known for its rich medicinal plant diversity and scenic trekking trails.
