Kaleshwaram Temple

Karimnagar, Telangana, India
Situated at the meeting point of two holy rivers, the Godavari and its tributary Pranahita, the Sri Kaleshwara Mukteswara Swamy Temple is a pilgrimage site of profound spiritual significance. Kaleshwaram is also revered as "Dakshina Triveni Sangamam" due to the belief that an invisible third river, Antarvahini, joins the two visible rivers here. This temple is one of the three Shiva temples mentioned in the sacred "Trilinga Desham" (land of three lingams), a reference to the Telugu-speaking region. The most unique and fascinating feature of this temple is the presence of two Shiva Lingams on a single pedestal, one representing Lord Shiva (Mukteswara) and the other Lord Yama (Kaleswara). This dual representation of the deities is believed to signify the power of Lord Shiva over life and death. The Mukteswara lingam is said to have a hole that can never be filled with water, a phenomenon that has puzzled scientists and devotees alike for centuries. The temple's serene atmosphere and its location at the confluence of the rivers make it a place of great spiritual power and tranquility. The temple is also home to a number of other shrines, including one for Goddess Sarawati, which is believed to be one of the three forms of the goddess in the region. The temple?s history dates back to the Kakatiya dynasty, and the architectural elements of that era are still visible in the temple's design. A bath in the holy waters of the confluence is considered highly auspicious, especially during the annual Godavari Pushkaralu festival. The temple is a must-visit for anyone seeking a spiritual experience and a deeper understanding of the region's cultural and religious heritage.
