Kondagattu Anjaneya Swamy Temple

Karimnagar, Telangana, India
Kondagattu Anjaneya Swamy Temple is one of the most revered shrines in Telangana, dedicated to Lord Hanuman. Nestled amidst lush green hills and valleys, the temple is believed to be over 500 years old. Legend has it that the idol was discovered by a cowherd named Singam Sanjeevudu after Lord Anjan eya appeared in his dream. The temple is unique because the presiding deity features the face of Lord Narasimha on one side and Lord Hanuman on the other. It is widely believed that devotees who pray here for 40 days are cured of mental ailments and blessed with children. The scenic beauty of the surrounding Kondagattu hills adds to the spiritual experience. The temple complex also houses shrines for Lord Venkateswara and Goddess Lakshmi. Thousands of devotees undertake the Hanuman Deeksha and visit the temple by foot during the Hanuman Jayanti season.

Dravidian and North Indian Fusion: The architecture of the temple is a beautiful blend of South Indian and North Indian styles. The main shrine is built in the classical Dravidian style with an ornate Gopuram featuring intricate carvings of various deities. The entrance arch, however, reflects North Indian influences. The temple stands on a hilltop with dimensions roughly covering 5 acres of the plateau. The main idol of Lord Hanuman is about 15 feet tall and is said to be Swayambhoo (self-manifested). The temple walls are adorned with stone inscriptions and relief sculptures depicting scenes from the Ramayana. Renovations over the years have added massive halls (Mandapams) to accommodate the growing number of pilgrims.
